Beef gelatin and bone broth

Collagen is a type of protein found mainly in bones, tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissue; cooking broth extracts it from the bones and cooks it into gelatin. Beef gelatin is a dense source of connective-tissue protein. 35% of the amino acids in gelatin are glycine, 11% alanine, and 21% proline and hydroxyproline.  Gelatin is also used for improving hair quality and to shorten recovery after exercise and sports-related injury.

Bones

Bone broth provides important minerals and vitamins that we need for hormonal health. It is an inexpensive way to get minerals and vitamins without taking supplements, which sometimes are not absorbed by the body when taken in tablet form.

Collagen and supplementation

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body. Collagen has great tensile strength, and is the main component of fascia, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, bone and skin. Along with elastin and soft keratin, it is responsible for skin strength and elasticity and its degradation leads to wrinkles that accompany aging. People in scientific studies were able to lose weight because the collagen protein reduced their appetites. As we age, our bodies lose muscle mass and often replace it with fat. Higher muscles mass helps with weight loss because the body burns calories faster.

Collagen Types 1 and 3 are both essential for functions and maintenance within skin, muscles, and bones. These types are produced by fibroblasts (cells in connective tissues) and osteoblasts (cells that make bones). Over 90 percent of collagen in the body is comprised of Type 1 & 3 Collagen. Proteins in these types include glycine, proline, alanine, and hydroxyproline. Collagen type 2 is produced by the liquid like filling within the cartilage. Supplements are available for both. Carrots and sweet potatoes are loaded with vitamin A, which restores collagen that's been damaged. Research indicates that by the age of 40, the bodies ability to produce collagen decreases by 25%. By age 60 years, it has decreased by over 50%.

Gelatin for men

Gelatin contains p-chlorophenylalanine which has been shown to increase male potency in a number of studies.  p-Chlorophenylalanine inhibits serotonin production in the brain via inhibition of tryptophan hydroxylase leading to a marked increases in sexual activity in males by increasing testosterone. This indicates that a serotonin deficiency (high libido, high testosterone) or a serotonin excess (low libido, low testosterone) could play a role in sexual function. Tryptophan is an amino acid that serves as the precursor from which serotonin is made. 5-HT receptors, or serotonin receptors, are a group of receptors and channels found in the central and peripheral nervous systems.

Cooking tip

Apple cider vinegar will help break down the bones better meaning more minerals and collagen will get out of the bones and into the broth assisting with the gelling.
